Dec 2013

Saying Goodbye to 2013 There was a time when I would fret over the Christmas holiday because I had to write a recap of the year and edit it together for LI News Tonight’s last show of the year. Writing it took an hour or so. Editing it took days. That task is long gone, but I still enjoy a good recap, and after years of writing for the Press Club show, I still love a parody set to music. I’m a fan of Jib Jab’s annual recap, if not necessarily everything included in them, so here’s the salute to 2013.

LOI Doubloon cover 2 in

Seasons Greetings!

This week only - Wednesday December 18 through Sunday December 22 - my novelette Library of Illumination: Doubloons will be available as a free Kindle download.

The Library of Illumination is a magical place where all stories begin: literature, science, poetry; every thought that has ever been committed to paper resides within. 16-year-old Jackson Roth is library curator Johanna Charette’s new assistant, but he may be too rambunctious for the quiet repository of knowledge. He unwittingly releases a bunch of rowdy pirates, who leave a cache of Spanish doubloons behind in the main reading room after they disappear back into the pages of Treasure Island. The money from the pirate booty couldn’t have come at a better time, but a pawnbroker’s interest spirals out of control, and instead of untold riches, there is mounting danger. Can Johanna and Jackson outsmart their enemy before an itchy trigger finger finds its mark?

Enjoy Doubloons for the holidays. It's my gift to you.

Custom (Prefab) Wall

I need an office and I’m thinking of redesigning our alcove into a space where I can write. Custom bookshelves can be pretty pricy, but I saw this feature on Houzz and it inspired me to create my own wall of “built-ins.”

My Muse Went Home for the Holidays

It is so difficult to think about writing and publishing during the holiday season. There are too many other tasks vying for my attention: shopping for gifts, sending out greeting cards, planning my Christmas Eve menu, baking cookies; I don’t know how other writers stay focused between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I feel like a ray of light passing through the prisms of a chandelier – suddenly disbursed into several different directions in a spectrum of colors.

Scattered is another way to put it.

But I didn’t let that stop me from setting up a book promotion for the week before Christmas.
Doubloons, the second novelette in the Library of Illumination series, will be a free Kindle download on Amazon from December 18th through the 23rd.

It’s my Christmas present to my readers.
